CIC x Arttenders
Art at Work Project
Roel van Eekelen
Roel van Eekelen embodies exactly what we were looking for: an artist who easily finds himself in a tightly framed assignment to create geometrical interventions on glass facades. With his playful designs he brings some sexyness into mathematics and reminds users of the spaces what a Hexagon and a Parallellogram looked like… because oops we forgot!
He is the 6th artist in the CICxArttenders Art at Work Project and we love him!
Roel van Eekelen x Art at Work
Roel is more than an illustrator: He is an artist and designer and he likes experimenting with different materials. As a rising star, Roel has already taken part in prestigious projects such as the Rotterdam Routes app, and created graphics for the 20th anniversary of Kunsthal Rotterdam. His work is characterized by the use of lines and simplification of the subjects to create evocative and pleasantly looking images. The result is a style that evokes futurism, cubism but also surrealism under a contemporary look, and leaves room to imagination and playful ideas.
For CICxArttenders Art at Work Project Roel has designed Geometric Compositions; 16 2D interventions for the facades of shared meeting rooms throughout CIC. He was challenged by Kraaijvanger Architects to play with the geometrical shapes that inspired the different rooms. In order to maintain the brightness of the space the applications will be semi-transparent, blending perfectly with the setting.

Roel on Geometric Compositions
“All designs are based on the play with basic geometric shapes by exploring their boundaries. Some in collage form, and some lean more towards illustration but each design is dancing around the base shape of the specific space defined by Kraaijvanger Architects. By using a different approach for every room, a surprising whole appears which consistency has the same design language.”
About the Art at Work Project
The Art at Work Project consists of a series of creative spaces in the CIC offices. These spaces are customized by various artists in collaboration with Arttenders through different forms of applied arts. This creates immersive and inspirational rooms, where entrepreneurs can meet, be inspired, work and socialize.
