“The ‘translation’ between artists and developers with a commercial slant requires a specific skillset.”
— Han Feijen, Director / FiMek estate
In 2013 Bouwinvest commissioned the development of a real estate complex ‘Nowadays’ in Amsterdam. After a strict selection procedure artists Arno Coenen, Iris Roskam and Hans van Bentem were selected to create a site specific artwork: Amsterdam Oersoep. FiMek estate was one of the advising parties in the development process.
“You could say that art, like music, is a universal language. A work of art is in dialogue with the viewer. But when you create an integrated work of art in a building, it is important for all the stakeholders to enter into dialogue with each other for the purpose of the realization of a work of art. At that point two worlds appear to be coming together, creating a situation in need for a completely different approach. The ‘translation’ between artists and developers with a commercial slant requires a specific skillset.
With the realization of “Amsterdam Oersoep”, located at the Damrak in the Beurspassage, Faye Ellen has shown that she has the talent to make this conversion and communicate clearly with all types of stakeholders, with an amazing result. “Amsterdam Oersoep” is a unique project, on a unique location and a success, thanks to Faye Ellen, a unique person!”
