Landscape architect !melk has invited Arttenders to contribute as art consultant for their promenade in Dubai Creek Harbour. Emaar Properties PJSC is commissioner and developer for this project. The promenade is part of large-scale urban development. The goal of this project is to realize an extraordinary impulse for the city of Dubai.

Identity enhancement
The new promenade forms a connection between the Dubai Creek Observation Tower (the tallest architectural construction in the world, designed by Calatrava Architects) and Harbour Point, the place where Dubai originated. Art interventions are an important element in this project. They have to emphasize the identity of the city and help turn the promenade into a desired tourist destination.

The promenade is aimed at people who want to walk from the tower to the harbour. Of course, this is quite remarkable in a place where temperatures can get extremely high and where people typically move around by car.

A promenade with art interventions
The promenade is designed by New York landscape architect !melk, led by Dutch founder Jerry van Eyck. !melk has a (worldwide) portfolio with projects in Shanghai and Moscow. Another big project is the development of the first public park on The Strip in Las Vegas. Jerry van Eyck has asked Arttenders as art consultant to contribute to his project in Dubai. The purpose of this collaboration is to enhance his design with art interventions. Arttenders and !melk have met each other during a cultural trade mission to New York, in the company of Minister Kajsa Ollongren in 2016.
Hotspot in the making
Project DCH1030, a deceptively simple name for an ambitious project, is currently in the sketch phase. Arttenders has proposed internationally renowned artists with a distinctive signature. The artwork will contain a multilayered narrative: a story in perfect symbiosis with !melk’s design. We expect that together they will make this boulevard a sensational tourist destination.
