Limiting or advancing?

Making commissioned work is a weird phenomenon in the arts. In the field of advertising, illustration and graphic design it is very common. In the field of the arts on the other hand, it is oftentimes frowned upon. People argue that making work for commercial purposes decreases the authenticity or artistic value of the work. In our daily practice, we experience that working within a limited framework forces the artists we collaborate with to continuously reinvent themselves. Advancing their skills and art practice in an ongoing basis.
