In November 3rd 2016, Faye Ellen and Siobhan Burger presented at Venture Cafe Rotterdam on the topic Art and Business: What’s in it for me? The presentation took place during a break out session in the historical cinema Kriterion in the Groot Handelsgebouw. Faye and Siobhan demonstrated how art can be essential for businesseses who want to invest in strong branding, market positioning or real estate development.
Venture Cafe Rotterdam
CIC (the Cambridge Innovation Center) was founded in 1999, and builds large scale communities of entrepreneurs in premium locations. Approximately six years ago, CIC’s founder Tim Rowe began hosting weekly meet ups specifically focused on connecting entrepreneurs, investors, and students to each other and to the outside community to foster innovation and growth. These gatherings, as well as the space they were held in, became known as the “Venture Café.”
Art as a marketing tool
One of the important marketing tools businesses can use is art. It communicates emotion, can create experiences and therefore brand value that is authentic and unique at the same time. They presented 7 cases that inspire them, from large scale area development in Las Vegas by landscape architect !melk to collaborations in product design such as the collaboration between artist Iwan Smit and sock brand Alfredo Gonzales. All use art at a means to create unique consumer experiences!
Art at Work Project at CIC Rotterdam
The Arttenders team also elaborated on the works of art made for the office of the Cambridge Innovation Center where Venture Cafe Rotterdam is located. We showed the pieces by Iwan Smit, Rotganzen, Studio Maky, Sigrid Calon, Luuk Bodel and Roel van Eekelen first, and later invited the participants a visit to Venture Cafe.
Big thanks to our photographer Joey van Dijk!
