Haas&Hahn and Studio Spass selected for design pitch at CIC Rotterdam

Siobhan BurgerNews

CIC Rotterdam and Arttenders have taken the next step in the CIC x Arttenders Art at Work Project in the second phase of the development of CIC in the Groot Handelsgebouw. In close collaboration with the CIC design team and Kraaijvanger Architects, Arttenders has challenged Studio Spass and Haas&Hahn to reinterpret the CIC living room within the theme ‘Urban Jungle’.

In this sketch assignment both artist collectives are challenged to take the stance of the interior designer and transform the entire space into an immersive concept space, from the ceiling until the floors. The CIC design team will evaluate the proposals and from there decide to implement one of the designs. We are happy with this new phase in our collaboration, integrating the artist even more into the design process as part of the design team for the biggest impact!

Haas&Hahn

Haas & Hahn is the working title of the artist duo Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn. The collaboration of the two began in 2005, when they made a documentary about hip-hop for MTV in the favelas in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo. This visit inspired them to found the Favela Painting Project, a series of community artwork painted by the artists, with the help of local people. Koolhaas and Urhahn have a passion for urban transformation.

Working in underserved communities, they mobilize and inspire locals to reinvent their own neighborhood through extraordinary art projects of massive scale under the name Favela Painting. Their projects include: Villa Rosa Tap Tap, Curacao painting, Back to Rio, Praca Cantao, Rio Cruzeiro, and Boy with kite. Haas & Hahn have been invited to present their work on many occasions, ranging from a show at the United Nations Head Quarters to lectures at universities across the world. In 2014 Haas&Hahn were invited to TED Global, held in Rio de Janeiro, to speak about their projects.
