Wednesday, December 8th was a beautiful day! Baltimore Bend, the multifunctional playscape has been transported from the workshop from Mannen van Staal in Leeuwarden, to its final destination Baltimoreplein in Almere Buiten. The design is made by Arttenders X Studio Spass and will create space to sit, relax, play and meet. Read here what we have been up to in the construction of this great design. 

It was driven across half the country on a matching white and Baltimore-bend-blue truck. The long trip gave this blue beauty a very glorious avant-première. A group of passers-by got a sneak peek of the blue wonder. A few weeks later, right before Christmas a super safe flooring in Playtop was added by Van Vliet. We added this so if you play a little too hard and you happen to fall off our Baltimore Bend it will just hurt a little.

Baltimore Bend is the product of an extensive design process of about two years. From the initial design competition with children from Almere Buiten to the final design in collaboration with Studio Spass. Every step was crucial in this elaborate and well-thought through process. Residents and local entrepreneurs were kept informed throughout the process. In this way Baltimore Bend will be an icon for the neighbourhood. This multifunctional playscape, commissioned by the municipality of Almere, is a part of a larger urban renewal in the Almere Buiten Area to make the center of this area more attractive and future-proof for residents, entrepreneurs, and visitors.

For now, Baltimore Bend will be kept safe and sound in a metal cage but in the beginning of ‘22 a festive and covid safe reveal is in the making. We have some great surprises in store. Will you stop by Baltimore Bend?
